Bento Boxes

The Japanese know how to do packed lunches......buy a ready filled bento box in supermarkets or create your own lunches and store them in your reusable bento box. Plenty of blogs out there focus on bento box lunches.

A friend and I recently ordered a bento box each from Casa Bento and they arrived on Friday. Now the challenge will be to make exciting lunches that fit in the boxes....any suggestions welcome.

I bought an Ojue box by Metaphys that I first saw over on Spoon and Tamago. The Ojue lunchbox stacks vertically and therefore allows it to be carried in the slimmest of bags. It comes in 3 sections which can be used individually or together, depending on the size of your lunch.

It also comes with a matching pair of chopsticks, that fold up and fit in a small compartment in the lid.

Tomorrow will be the first outing of the bento box - probably giant couscous with roasted veggies.......and perhaps some strawberries!

Now if I could just get my hands on a Black and Blum Lunch Pot - my future lunches would be complete!

Oh, that's a very sophisticated lunchbox, I had no idea it existed such fancy objects!

I love the color-- chartreuse! You just made me really hungry for sushi, because that's the first thing I think of when I see chopsticks!

Beatiful lunchbox! Bento boxes are the best...but always just a bit too small for some of my favourite foods :-)

I love that color, it's so great. I wish I could be so ambitious in the morning that I could pack lovely bento boxes for my family.

We have been using the stainless steel boxes, much like the ones that my parents used when they were school children. Back then, their boxes would be collected before lunch time, and all the boxes steamed in these enormous pots, so that the kids could have their lunches reheated for them at lunch time. Alas, we mostly pack sandwiches, since they don't reheat food at kindergarten.
