Paris - the Food...

The windows of the grand department stores in Paris were in their Christmas finest and this year that included (as seen in the previous post) a penchant for fabric food:

The fabric turkey and the croque en bouche were beautiful but as blog followers will know I am always more excited by the availability or real food to photograph, particularly markets. In Paris, the availability of fresh produce at markets across the city is amazing. We were staying in the 11th arrondisement near the Bastille and on Sunday morning as we left the hotel to walk down Rue Richard Lenoir to the metro station there was the most amazing market....almost as beautiful as the market on Rue Monge that we visited last time in Paris. I only had 10 minutes as we were walking through but I managed to take a fair few photos.... here's a little video about the market!

The fruit and veg, the fish, even the eggs were beautifully displayed, which left us wondering how long it took to set up the stalls! If only we had markets like this here in Scotland!

However, it's not just the markets that are amazing in Paris, round every corner is a patisserie or boulangerie, a fromagerie or a greengrocer....all with windows worthy of photographing.

The patisserie is from the most amazing shop on Rue Rambuteau (just behind the Pompidou Centre) called Pain de Sucre, where the make beautiful marshmallows (guimauve).....if you're hungry I wouldn't go look at their website!

I love Paris, but visited more often pre-kids. Went with some girlfriends last year, but we wondered if what we really needed was a spa in Provence...hectic city! Love your photos of your scottish landscape as well!

Ok, we might have to mix gardening at historical sights with travel to exotic cities. I was never a big fan of Paris, but seeing it through your eyes....makes me want to go back!
