Woollie Weekend - Pittenweem Arts Festival

I spent the weekend out and about. Saturday I was off to Killiecrankie with the National Trust to rebuild some drainage ditches, building some fences and in general getting wet and muddy! 

Sunday I headed off to the Pittenweem Arts Festival. Regular readers will know that I am a big fan of this little fishing village in Fife and once a year they host a week long arts festival. A number of artists reside in the village, who wouldn't be inspired to paint by the coloured houses along the shore, with their crow-stepped gables, the sea rolling in across the sand and rocks, the view of the fishing boats in the harbour and the islands in the Firth of Forth.......and during the arts festival up to 100 artists are displaying their works in all manner of locations - from harbour walls, to galleries, to local homes who turn their spaces into galleries for the week, to the village hall.....

It's nice to be able to wander about and see what is on offer and to get to see into people's gardens and homes that are not usually open, allowing you to see their beautiful views whilst pretending to look at paintings!

This year's invited artists included Yoshihito Kawabata who created an installation on the outer pier of the harbour - a circle of stones picked from a beach on the north west coast of Scotland, each one numbered (there were 1000) and decorated with a Japanese character, laid in a circle across the pier, the beach and even in the sea, being rolled by the waves and knocked by the visitors, changing the shape of the circle.....
