Woollie Wanders to Pittenweem

Regular readers will know that I love the small coastal village of Pittenweem in the East Neuk of Fife. My cousin owns a house there, a pink house right on the sea.......and this week my parents are staying there so I took the opportunity to spend the night. The sea laps the side wall of the house when the tide is in and you lie in bed with the sound of the waves gently lapping, lulling you to sleep.

We were so lucky with the weather this weekend. On Thursday the forecast was all doom and gloom but by Friday morning the forecast was more hopeful and indeed we were graced by sun and mild temperatures.

I managed to run yesterday morning, along the coastal path to St Monans past a windmill and a series of old salt workings, where they used to boil large quantities of sea water to make salt.  Listening to the sea, the oyster catchers, with rabbits bounding across by path and eider ducks bobbing on the waves. Afterwards I ate breakfast sitting on the rocks.

Pittenweem is quite an artsy little town, who wouldn't want to paint the coloured houses on the harbour, or the beach...and each year in August they have a week long Arts Festival, with houses all over the village opening their doors, artists from all over the world using them as small, impromptu art galleries, ceilidhs are held in the fish market and fireworks light up the sky! Here are some shots from last year's Festival...

See you on Wednesday.

Your weekend sounds wonderful! You are so lucky to be able to get away to a place like this... it sounds so peaceful! It also reminds me of Nantucket Island here in the summer when they open all the galleries up to the vacationers!

Pittenweem looks like a beautiful place... I might have to put my family in the car and go and have a look for myself one day...

Your photos of Pittenweem really remind me of all the little fishing villages in Nova Scotia.

The image of the waves lapping at the bedroom wall is absolutely beautiful.
