Woodins in their Natural Environment

A long long time ago in a far away land, a fallen log, hollowed by insects longed for a family. The forest was full of little creatures called woodins but none seemed ready to make the little log their home.

Finally, there came a day when a few little woodins came looking and decided that the log would make a good home!

OK - they did have a little help along the way.

I made this log from a pattern over at MochiMochi Land a few months ago for my friend's baby. The baby arrived last week and I still hadn't made the woodins that live in the log. I had tried to make them!  The pattern called for knitting each little leg separately - starting off with 4 stitches to be knit in the round. On finishing one leg you set three needles aside and knit the other leg - then you had to join, in the round, the stitches from both legs - that involved 7 needles and felt a little like extreme knitting for me! So I decided to put the magic lopi into play again and knit a big white square, felted it in the washing machine and then created a template and cut round it. Sewing and stuffing followed and 3 little woodins emerged!

AND your beautiful photos!!! I love them. You're totally wrong about them being different in real life! I think they're great! I am going to put them in a frame somehow and put them up in my "studio" area! You just made my weekend! Lots of hugs from Pennsylvania!!!!!

P.S. I might have known you would know rodel yarn from your many travels! The colour selection IS great but my only complaint is that there's too much cotton and not enough cashmerino. I think I'll have to take your advice r.e. the cake- might get a few strange looks though. Did you find many woollie places in Italy?

Hey, these are really really cute, and I believe, they will be very much "stronger" than the only knitted version!
And the log's great, too!!Good, if every toy has got a place to live in!!!

wow - you amaze me with what you can do with yarn! i'm so hopelessly devoid of any knitting/crocheting time & ability! ;)
