Olive Design UK

One weekend earlier this month I had 2 weddings to go to. I only had 2 weddings this year and they were both on the same day. Luckily my friends were having a party the night before their wedding so I was able to attend that and then jump in the car at 730am the next morning to drive the 230 miles to the Ribble Valley (near Preston in NW England) so I could go to my cousin's wedding.

But this post isn't really about weddings. On the way back from England we took a small detour into the northern Lake District as it was such a lovely day and we had my aunt from the States visiting.

We drove along the side of Bassenthwaite Lake and stopped to watch the steamers sailing up and down the lake and then we drove on through Mungrisdale to Caldbeck and Priests Mill, home to the Wool Clip, the waterwheel cafe and a new craft shop, Cherry Didi, selling products produced by local artisans mixed with handcrafts from Nepal.

It was here that I made my latest purchase for the flat. A beautiful oak stool handmade from fallen trees found on estates around the Lake District. The company, Olive Design UK, are based in Cumbria and make a range of stools and serving boards from oak and oak plywood.

We came across a Lake District style traffic jam on the way home,  just to amuse my aunt!

What a great little stool! I have to wonder why your aunt doesn't just stay-- the scenery is so gorgeous where you are! I don't think I'd want to go home. I'm so glad to hear that you were able to celebrate with both your friends and your family-- I know that was troubling you earlier that you had to choose between the two!

Gosh Di -- I've missed your travel posts over the last few weeks. Luckily for blogs, they're still there and I can read them. Your photos are gorgeous -- it looks like you've had some wonderful trips. Love your new stool -- very pretty. And the sheepies! Oh, the sheepies!!!
