"I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves." ~Anna Quindlen, "Enough Bookshelves," New York Times, 7 August 1991
This week's Corner View is "Books".....I grew up in a household full of books, more books than a bookstore.....I grew up loving books....listening to my parents reading me stories, watching and helping as my mum taught children to read for over 30 years (OK I wasn't there for 30 years)......brought the words to life and the stories to the forefront of their imaginations .....there can be no better gift, teaching someone to read.
Now for the quote above, I truly don't have enough bookshelves in my house. Books are stored under the bed, in a pile next to the bed and anywhere else they can find a home.

great quote! :)
I also grew up in a house full of books...and as many times as I've moved, I always end up with far to many books for my shelves. It's a good thing.
Love that quote! We seem to have a similar problem with books in this house - they are everywhere.
Me too- I love the quote! I also like how your parents passed on the love of books to you.
Don't you love looking at other people's books? I love that Anna Quindlen quote. We're very lucky -- whoever built this house put in a TON of bookcases. We've done a good job of filling them in 10 years, but when they're completely full, I'll know it's time to do a little weeding -- one is currently screaming for a clean-out -- it's full of computer software books from the 80's and 90's -- SO obsolete now LOL!
Love Italo and the stories that go from something very normal and goes to marvelous stories...At parents, always where lots of books...I start to buy just because my dad´s were not interesting.
lovely! and excellent quote! thanks for your visit.
Hooray for books and the wonderful values of passing on a love of reading:)
Mind if I borrow "If on a winter's night..."?!
Happy Reading to You!
i love that quote... yeah, i could use a few more bookshelves too... warm hugs!
Yes! I don't have enough bookshelves either. Is that possible? I love books so much, too. Great post.
The dark heart of Italy?! I love the quote, lack of bookshelves seems to be a very common problem. I store New Yorkers under the bed ...
its the same in my home - there just arent enough shelves for the books. so much so that my hubby (a non-reader) is threatening to get rid of some of the books if i bring any more into the house. (of course i manage to sneak some in every now and again when he isnt looking)
great quote! and what fun it would be to visit your house and all your friendly books residing there :)
books EVERYWHERE in our home too. it's getting out of control. scrap that. it is out of control.
Thanks for sharing that quote; it's *exactly* how I feel.
We have books absolutely everywhere too, will post a corner view very soon!
"Norwegian Wood" was my first book by Murakami that I read; Marquez is one of my favourites, "The Pianist" is well known to me, of course, "If on a winter's night..." is on my shelf "to-be-read-books" as well as "The Dark Heart of Italy" and I found "A Short History of Tractors..." very funny... Seems like we have similar taste in books :)
Happy reading and thank you for sharing,
hugs
Kasia
Great quote!
I used to have a lot of books, but I gave most of them away when we moved from Denmark :-)
Thanks for leaving me a message the other day at my blog. I love people who love book! You have a beautiful blog.
how lucky you've been. parents who are into reading are really a gift.
I love that quote! And I grew up in the same sort of house! I also find that the more bookshelves I have, I still have piles of books all around. But that makes it homey, doesn't it? ;)
I like that Anna Quindlen quote so much. Our house is also overflowing with books and not enough room for more shelves. There is nothing so comforting as being surrounded by books--especially books you have read and loved!
I grew up reading Anna Quindlen's column in The New York Times and her two books of essays remain among my favorites today (not so much with her novels sadly). Anyone who quotes Anna Quindlen on their blog gets a bookmark in my reader!
