On Tour in Scotland

I don't have any photos for Corner View this week (no-one ever phones my mobile) but I thought it was time to catch up on some recent wanderings around Scotland......

A few weeks back my friends Karen and Alison (I met them in Japan earlier this year) came from London for the weekend with the wish to see some countryside and a castle or 2. I didn't have too many difficulties thinking of things to do. We spent a rather damp afternoon in Edinburgh before heading back to Dundee, but we did see the castle and ate at favourite pub, The Stockbridge Tap. How many pubs can you go to who ask, when ordering fish and chips, if you want haddock or cod?

Saturday the weather was just as bad - wet, grey and windy so we hopped from coffee shop to lunch to chocolate shop, through Pittenweem (couldn't let them visit Scotland without seeing my favourite place), Cellardyke, Crail, Elie and St Andrews. We ate lunch at the Cheese Farm, shopped at a farm shop:

had hot chocolate at the fabulous Cocoa Tree:

and by then the rain had stopped and we were able to take some post storm photos!

On Sunday we headed north to the Danish Christmas Shop in Farnell near Brechin, where we did a little shopping and ate Danish style donuts and pastries.

It was then time to see a castle and I had decided that Dunnottar Castle on the coast of Aberdeenshire, near Stonehaven was a good choice. It's in the most spectacular location perched on rocks surrounded by the sea on 3 sides.

I think that everyone enjoyed themselves.

Then I spent a weekend at a bunkhouse in Aberfeldy with friends a couple of weeks ago - celebrating a fairly significant birthday, my fairly significant birthday and it was lovely to spend time with so many good friends - there were 13 adults and 2 kids - lots of food and laughs, walks and cooking! A perfect birthday!

Aberfeldy was somewhere in the cloud in the valley....we thought it was grey and cloudy all over, but 5 minutes drive out of Aberfeldy, up the hill, the sun was shining and the sky was blue!

I think on Saturday night at the bunkhouse there were 15 kids and no adults :), particularly at balloon time.

I fell in love with it at 16, on my first visit and I haven't been in... far too long, actually. time to visit again, soon.

Sounds like you had some eventful and fun days despite the rain.
