Edinburgh Festival

It's the time of the year when the masses converge on Edinburgh - festival time....the International Festival, the Fringe Festival, the Art Festival, the Book Festival and so on. Regular inhabitants of Edinburgh begin to suffer from pavement rage....the simplest of journeys blocked by tourists and street performers....restaurant tables become difficult to find....but the attractions are massive, even for the locals. There is so much to see and do. The city truly comes alive.

I went to Edinburgh for a meeting last Wednesday and took the day off on Thursday to go for a wander round the city. Wednesday evening I took in a show. I went to see the Tao Japanese Drummers, who I had first seen 5 years ago and had fuelled my long term desire to go to Japan, finally fulfilled this year.....

They were as amazing as I remembered and the Assembly Hall a great place to see them (see top right in photo below).

On Thursday I headed to the Dovecot Studios, home of rug weavers and exhibitions. Based in an old swimming pool the balcony made a perfect location for an exhibition of the work of illustrator and children's book author, John Burningham. I enjoyed his vivid illustrations immensely. (Only a couple of photos because I didn't realise photos weren't allowed until I'd taken a few - oops!)

If you can ever make it to Edinburgh during Festival season, it's definitely worth it!

On the roof of Waverley Market is an exhibition of some of the most amusing road signs from around the world! Very amusing!

I've always wondered if I'd like to be in Edinburgh during festival time. I'd love all the attractions, but not the crowds. Love the new blog header!
