Escape to the Woods, The Lighthouse, Glasgow

Yesterday I took a little day trip to Glasgow (where I went to University) to do some shopping, eat lunch at Wagamama (for my favourite sticky chicken curry) and to visit the Donna Wilson exhibit, Escape to the Woods, at the Lighthouse (design and architecture museum). Donna Wilson's style lends itself well to the creation of a whimsical world and that is exactly what it felt like upon entering the gallery....woollie trees, toadstools, houses and creatures inhabiting an atmospheric world. Children delighted in the strange little creatures and giant soft trees, twirling happily amongst them.

Check out her website and this article from the Scotsman for more information on her work.

The Lighthouse itself is celebrating its 10th anniversary and the building is certainly interesting. Built around Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Glasgow Herald Building, built in 1895 to host the City's newspaper offices. The museum represents Scotland's message on design and architecture and is full of quirky details...my personal favourite being the toilet sign:

The exhibit looks incredible! And those signs are pretty cute. They have similar ones in the Irving gas station bathrooms here in Eastern Canada.
