Woollie Weekend - Rowan 30th Anniversary Exhibit & A Little Knitting

It's been a nice weekend (it seemed to be a long week)! Friday night dinner with friends, Saturday Kitchen on TV Saturday morning, late lunch with friends visiting from Switzerland and a Sunday spent at my favourite knitting shop: Twist Fibre Craft

They were playing host to the Rowan 30th Anniversary Exhibit. Rowan have been manufacturing yarn and producing pattern books for 30 years and as part of the celebrations they have put together a show of some iconic pieces to tour not just the UK but the world. It all started out in Huddersfield in August and then the world (but first a little stop in Newburgh).

Laura and Peter had curated the exhibit in the local arts centre, collecting tailor's dummies from all over Scotland to display the items on. They had done a great job. There were garments from the last 3 decades (glad to see fashion has moved on a bit) and even photos of a very young Kate Moss modelling for Rowan in 1991!

Along with the exhibit, as part of National Knitting Week, they organised a "sit and knit" where you could pass a few hours knitting hats for Innocent Smoothie bottles. Every year Innocent organise "The Big Knit" which encourages people from all over the UK to knit little bobble hats for the bottles, to be sold in a supermarket chain, atop the bottles, to raise money for Age Concern. Twist had organised a competition to encourage us to knit wild and wacky hats - seeing some of the creations I think it worked!

Louise (check out her related post), Andrea and I whiled away the hours making little hats - cactus pots, pineapples and chickens to name but a few.

What a wonderful shop!!! I just went to a new yarn shop in downtown Lancaster during our Art Walk on Sunday! But it wasn't anything like this! I've been crocheting little animals and puppets for the kids! I wish I could've joined you!!
