Post 200 - Another Woollie Weekend

I cannot believe how quickly this year is passing - July already! Weekends, for some reason, seem to pass so much more quickly than weekdays at work! This weekend was no exception!

Friday night after drinks with friends I headed home and prepared Umeko, Kokeshi No.2 for her little journey to her new owner and also managed to make the bodies and heads of the next 2 kokeshi! Needle felting is a great way to release the stresses of the week!

Yesterday I went for my first strawberry picking session of the season - the berries were smaller than last year but very sweet! I picked 2kg - some were frozen for making smoothies later in the year, some were eaten straight away and others became part of the strawberry shortcake dessert I made to take to friends for dinner (a Nigella Lawson recipe where the shortcake is more scone like than shortbread).  Yesterday I also stewed the rhubarb that my friend Sal gave me at knitting group on Wednesday - time to make some rhubarb crumble!

Today it was off to the Scottish Game Fair with friends at Scone Palace. Scone Palace is the crowning place of Scottish kings and is perched on the banks of the River Tay in a beautiful estate, which plays host to the Game Fair once a year. We saw a range of game dogs in the ring showing us their skills, the re-enactment soldiers of the 1815 Black Watch infantry, watched sheepdogs herding indian runner ducks around their assault course, ferret racing and tasted a great variety of Scottish produce in the food tent. We wandered the stalls selling all sorts of fishing, walking, country equipment and people watched galore - never seen so much tweed in the one place before! You could also try your hand a clay pigeon shooting, fly fishing, archery and much more!

Ferret racing?!? Sounds like a tweed-tastic day out at Scone castle!
I hope you've taken a picture of the strawberry shortcake to show us :)

p.s. you didn't tell Poop about the clay pigeon shooting, did you?

Happy 200! I feel the same way...where is this year going, it's flying?! Love all your photos. Oh, your kokeshi are adorable! Thanks so much for visiting me while I was away on holiday. We just got back from London--had FAB time. Resting travel-weary feet and doing laundry this weekend...holiday's over--LOL! ;o)

We are close to strawberry season, but not quite- I keep having to stop my boy from picking the unripe ones! Those gomes sound like lots of fun!
