Woollie Weekend

The weekend is almost over. Why is it that they pass so much quicker than 2 days at work? I will say almost, because it is 1020pm on a Sunday evening and it is dusk outside, not quite dark yet. It seems so strange, I have been having difficulty going to bed because it isn't getting dark till almost 1045pm.....

My weekend was filled with friends and flowers! Two of my favourite things......

I went out with the National Trust on Saturday to Monimail, near Letham in Fife. It is a small commune, with a large garden and woodland to maintain. We go to help out once a year in the garden. In the morning we were removing ivy from trees - they were being strangled by the ivy so we needed to free them. The afternoon was spent weeding in the garden (my favourite past-time, my friends say I am the National Trust's weeder!) and boy they were giant weeds!!

The gardens are really beautiful, natural in state and full of flowers - poppies, allium, foxgloves....

The tower, just outside the walled garden has been fully restored and you can climb to the roof for a view over the surrounding countryside. The hen house (see bottom right) is surely the most luxurious hen house in the world!

I also managed a quick pit stop at my parents place and I must admit that my mum's garden is looking really pretty just now! You can see her weeding in one of the photos! The garden gate in the photo belongs to Monimail - it is the entrance to the walled garden and I always think it belongs in one of my favourite childhood books - "The Secret Garden".

Beautiful pictures. I love all the National Trust sites you share here.

The Secret Garden was one of my favorite books, too. I still remember the illustration of the little bird finding the key.

Thank you Di for visiting my blog.
What lovely photo's, the flowers are simply lovely.
You made me laugh when you told me about your mum's bird box, that would have been a bit difficult.
By the way that is a beautiful blanket that you made for Bethany's nephew, it is so unique.

Your mum's garden is amazing - as a child I constantly was searching for that secret door - either to the secret garden or the wardrobe that would take me to Narnia - I guess I lived most of my childhood in a giant fairy tale dream world of sorts - but I still daydream - far too much for my age probably!
